Skills to Pay the Bills was an exhibit and series of sculptures demonstrating my process of learning how to measure a teaspoon in the palm of my hand.
Chef Thomas Keller has said that the best skill a home chef can acquire is to measure a teaspoon by sight in their palm, so when assigned to learn a new skill and design an exhibit around the process, I knew the skill I wanted to work on.
The exhibit included 15 unique plaster molds of my hand, showing each time I practiced measuring a teaspoon until I finally measured accurately three times in a row.
This project was completed in two weeks as a part of the Fall 2019 Visual Strategies course at the University of Utah.
